La Tania is a ski resort in the Courchevel area of Les Trois Vallees at 1400m above sea level. It was developed for the Albertville Olympics of 1992. It was used as an accommodation base for ice hockey players and journalists but now La Tania has grown into a resort in its own right, still retaining a village like atmosphere but linking in to the massive Three Valleys ski area and is situated between the large resorts of Méribel and Courchevel.
The village centre is traffic free and consists of around 6 apartment blocks, a couple of hotels and numerous chalets spread out through the forest. There are 4 ski hire shops, a Tourist Office, newsagent, bakery, supermarket, post office, lift pass office and 8 bars / restaurants.
The village is served by a 12 person Gondola which links to high speed quad chair from where you can ski down to either the Courchevel or Meribel ski areas. There is a series of 2 drag lifts that can also take you from the village to the Courchevel side of the mountain. There are now 3 runs down into the resort, a roller coaster blue straight down through the forest in to the resort, a wide red run with a consistent gradient down to the bottom gondola station plus a new green run winding down through the forest from the top gondola station in to the resort, a great skier/boarder cross track on a first run down in the morning!
With its North-East facing slopes the powder here can often remain overlooked for several days, especially the Gazex couloirs off the Col de la Loze, named Gazex 1,2 and 3, by La Tania legends Nic Atkinson, Mark Jones & Billy Manson.
